kids at Barnes&Noble...
Very often at work, I get to see the most horrible parts of parenting: ie, the horrible horrible temper tantrums in public places when a child NEEDS that new toy/book(usually toy)or refuses to leave the play area that's set up near the computer in the childrens section.

Equally often, I get to see the horrible parenting... indulging a whiny kid, ignoring a child, and other such bad-parent cliches

sometimes i get to see parents try to teach their children about sharing, playing well with the other kids, and learning the value of money (!)

But yesterday I got to see a really joyful part of someone's life, as she realized her daughter could actually read, more than she thought she could. The girl was playing with the stuffed animals we have on sale, and when her mother asked what the name of the deer she had was, she replied "lost in the woods", which was what was printed in big letters on the dolls tag (it's to go with a little-known picture-photo book) Unfortunately, i had to leave to hep another customer, while her mom tried to find out if she had really read it, or if she knew from before what the doll was. (the mother was commentng on this development to another mother she had been talking to, she looked so proud of her daughter!)

anyway,.. enough happy squishy... back to your regularly scheduled emo
